SACRED BUDDHA JAYANTHI CELEBRATIONS
Maha Bodhi Society,
Bangalore, is celebrating the Sacred Buddha Jayanthi since 52 years on the
Veshakha Purnima day under the guidance of its founder Venerable
Buddharakkhita. This year too the Buddha Jayanthi is being celebrated from 3rd
to 10th May 2009.
This year’s Sacred
Buddha Jayanthi has special significance for the Maha Bodhi Society,
reasons:

Opening of
Mahadvara the Great Gateway to Mahabodhi World Peace Buddha Temple donated by
Shri Upasaka Rajanna

Foundation
laying of Mahabodhi Holistic Ayurvedic Medical Centre
3.
Foundation
stone laying for Mahabodhi Buddha Jayanthi Open University building which will
also house the Centre for Higher Learning,
of Pali and Buddhist Studies which conducts various multi linguistic academic
courses
4.
Hospital
Dana service in Mahabodhi Burns and Casualty centre, Victoria Hospital, Cancer
Hospital, K.R.Hospital, Mysore
5.
Starting of
Kannada Tipitaka Publication Project
6.
Foundation
for the Book Centre of the Mahabodhi Buddha Vachana Trust publication
7.
7-Day Bodhi
Saptaha program
8.
Starting of
the new Mahabodhi Guest House at Mahbodhi Centre for Service-Sevakshetra
9.
Meals for
devotees program.
10.
Laksha Deepa Puja : Offering of one hundred thousand
lights to the holy Trirathna-Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha seeking blessings of the
holy Triple Gem and protection of the Buddha Sasana arakkhaka deva, protecting
gods, to help restoring peace on earth and goodwill among people of different
faiths, races, cultures, genders, etc.

Annual General Body meeting : The Jayanthi programs
will conclude with the Annual General Body meeting of the maha Bodhi Society,
its sisters organizations and branches and overseas Mahabodhi associate organisationd.

Alpasankhatarara vichara goshti. Conducting Buddhist Activities like training
lay community leaders to establish Pancasila Samiti dedicated to the promotion
of voluntary undertaking of five moral precepts as taught by Lord Buddha.
Conducting of various social, educational and humanitarian services.
